We are very careful when selecting homes for our dogs. All potential buyers must complete our “Puppy Application”. We check references and conduct home visits whenever possible. Our puppies are part of our family and we have been very fortunate to find excellent homes for our dogs over the years. Our buyers maintain contact with us and several have become good friends. This is beneficial not only for our own peace of mind but also the puppy buyer. We are happy to support our new pup's family throughout the life of the dog and we always welcome questions from our new pup's owners.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• Does the puppy come with ears cropped and micro
chipped?
• Will the puppy be accompanied by current health
certificates?
• Will I receive a three generation pedigree, a contract
concerning the sale and AKC registration papers?
• How many litters do you have a year?
• Are you a member of the German Pinscher Club of America
and if so for how long?
• What are the parent's like?
• Are the puppies temperament tested in any way?
• How do I arrange to purchase an Immer Treu German Pinscher puppy?
CROPPING ANSWER: We will need to know if you are planning to
show your dog in conformation because if not, you should consider leaving the
ears natural. Cropping involves a large commitment of time from the dog owner as
well as some cost. Cropping can be done for show purposes, however even for conformation showing it is not required, and in some countries, owners are prohibited from showing a dog that has been cropped. You can
certainly crop a pet/performance GP's ears, however you need to be
aware that it is a somewhat uncomfortable procedure for the puppy, with considerable follow-up care required, and you may be
posting and taping for several months depending on how quickly the
cartilage sets up. If you don't understand these terms, please email me and we can discuss the issues. The tails are docked
and dewclaws removed on all puppies at 3 days old. The exception are pups who are reserved, in advance of whelping, by overseas buyers that must leave their GP's natural.
MICROCHIP & VACCINE ANSWER: The puppy will be micro
chipped with first shots and parasite free. The health certificate is
required for shipping purposes and Rabies Vaccine is not given until
12 weeks of age.
Below is a link to the current vaccine recommendation schedule for
most dogs. Vaccines are important and must be given but care must be taken on
the schedule and doses to minimize risk to the dogs. The recommended non-core vaccines your
puppy receives will vary depending on
the area in which you live. You will also need to protect against Heartworm if
you live in an area where Heartworm is present.
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1648&aid=950#. Many breeders and dog owners have concerns about puppy and dog reactions to the administration of vaccines. A study of this issue is written up in a two page non-technical language report, that specifically addresses this issue in the German Pinscher breed. You can access the study which is entitled "Post-vaccinal reactions in German Pinschers –preliminary report" by clicking the link. While the report title includes "preliminary report", we have been unable to locate any final report and the most current study referenced in this report in 1998. We have no reason to believe that there is any more current report that is specific to German Pinschers.
PEDIGREE, PAPERS AND CONTRACT ANSWERS:
The puppy will come with a 3-generation pedigree and will be
registered with AKC so you will receive the registration paperwork to
transfer him/her into your name once you provide proof that he/she
has been spayed (pet puppy) or immediately if you purchase a show
prospect. We have a contract that we will be happy to send to you once
you let us know whether you are planning to purchase a pet or show
prospect.
How many litters do you have a year? We have had one German Pinscher litter, the "Midnight Litter" which was whelped October 25, 2009. We plan on one GP litter in 2012 and two GP litters in 2013.
Are you a member of the German Pinscher Club of America and
if so for how long?
Yes, we became a member of GPCA in 2009 and attended the National Specialty
and GPCA Meeting in Kansas. Lorraine took Dreamer to the GPCA National Specialty in 2010 held in N.C. where Dreamer went BOS/BIS. Howard handled his boy, Max, at the 2011 GPCA National held in MO and Max went Best of Breed.
We are also members of the Mt. Rainier Working Dog Club, Papillon Club of America, Papillon Association of Puget Sound and our local club, Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club where Lorraine serves as Vice-President and Howard is Webmaster.
What do you feed your dogs?
Our dogs are fed Solid Gold Wolf King (Adult) and Wolf Cub (Puppy) kibble. In addition, they are fed Honest Kitchen "Embark" a dehydrated raw food which is grain free. We feed the kibble in the morning and the raw in the evening. This combination produces supremely healthy dogs with very shiny coats.
Proper nutrition is vital and we believe that dogs fed a high quality diet in the proper proportions will live to their potential. Feeding your pet correctly will help to avoid unnecessary veterinary costs and extend the life of your dog well into their teens. Your dog will continue to be active and energetic throughout his life when given proper nutrition, exercise and love.
How tall are the parents of the "Midnight" litter?
Lukas is 20" tall and Bahn is 18" tall. Both are square dogs that
conform to the German Pinscher Standard extremely well.
Puppy Temperament Testing?
We have researched puppy temperament testing and we selected the VOLHARD PUPPY APTITUDE TEST (PAT). A full description of that testing system, as well as the scoring factors is available on the developers web page at http://www.workingdogs.com/testing_volhard.htm . The results of the testing is a matrix which gives an indication of what kind of person each individual puppy would be compatible. We tested the “Midnight Litter” using this system and found it to be amazingly accurate. You can clickhere to view the results of that testing on our “Midnight Litter.”
How Large Will The Puppys Get? The German Pinscher Standard states that the ideal height is between 17 - 20 inches at the withers. Our puppies have fallen within the standard height range with the females being roughly 17 inches and the males being roughly 19 or 20 inches when fully grown. The "Puppy Growth Chart" linked here is specific to our "Midnight Litter" but should give you an idea of the size of puppies up to four months.
How can I purchase an Immer Treu German Pinscher puppy? We require that every potential buyer complete a “Puppy Application” by copying the text of the questions in this document into an email and answering the questions completely. Once the application has been approved we conduct a home inspection and ask that the buyers visit our home which allows them to see German Pinschers in action to make sure this is the right breed for them. We've had several people visit over the years who were interested in the breed and we welcome the opportunity to educate others about this wonderful but very energetic breed!
Feel free to contact us for Breeder Referrals if you are interested in a GP before Fall 2012! |
